What a battery warranty actually covers, and the things that quietly void it.
Battery warranties in this region are widely misunderstood, largely because the thing most likely to kill your battery is the thing warranties generally do not cover. It is worth understanding the distinction before you need to rely on it.
A warranty covers manufacturing defects: a cell that fails prematurely, an internal short, a case or terminal fault. What it typically does not cover is gradual capacity loss from heat, which in Dubai is the normal ageing process rather than a fault. What commonly voids a battery warranty
- Fitting the wrong technology — a conventional flooded battery in a start-stop car will fail quickly, and that is a fitment error rather than a defect.
- Not registering or coding the battery on a vehicle that requires it. The car then charges it incorrectly from day one, and the resulting failure is attributable to installation.
- Repeated deep discharge. Letting a battery go completely flat several times permanently removes capacity, and that is usage rather than a manufacturing fault.
- An undiagnosed charging fault. If the alternator is overcharging, it will destroy any battery fitted to the car, and the replacement is not covered until the underlying fault is fixed.
- An unaddressed parasitic drain. A circuit drawing current with the car switched off will flatten batteries indefinitely, and replacing them does not resolve the cause.
- Physical damage or an insecure hold-down. A battery that has been allowed to move and vibrate suffers internal plate damage, which is excluded as installation or maintenance related.
